The central nervous system (CNS) is part of the whole nervous system. From an anatomical point of view it includes the brain and the spinal cord. It is by definition distinguished from the peripheral nervous system. The latter consists in part of extensions of the central nervous system. The job of the central nervous system is the integration of all the sensory stimuli that the body takes in from the outside via the sense organs or that are generated by the internal organs. The CNS coordinates all the motor activity of the entire body, both voluntary and those of the autonomous mechanisms.

It regulates and modulates all physiological processes in the internal organs and between the organs and organic subsystems. The CNS maintains the function of the whole body by self-regulation in its environment. Malfunction or dysregulation within the CNS leads to a large number of forms of illnesses that interfere with the functioning of the organism in its environment and hinder individuals in mastering tasks and controlling their lives or make them totally impossible.

Among the mental illnesses that result from such dysregulation, various forms of depression play a particular role.

An attempt is made to compensate for or to modulate such dysregulation with substances that affect the central nervous system’s transfer mechanisms. This is intended to put patients in a position to be able to live an active life in their environment. Corden Pharma is involved in the synthesis of substances and their formulation in medicines that are appropriate for the treatment of depression. Corden Pharma also has the technology to manufacture highly potent drugs that affect hormone transfer and regulation mechanisms.
